Before Islam, the perception regarding disability was, "Disabled child is the punishment of God for those who have done sin."

When Islam arrived it teaches us that, God creates them so that we can see His power in them.

Recently, Fayyaz-Ul-Hassan Chohan, Minister of Panjab made everyone hurt and disappointed in his Press conference. While talking about all the present situation about Coronavirus, he said, "disability is the punishment of God".

This made everyone dishearten and people protest on tweeter against this completely inappropriate statement; in which Shireen Mazari, member of the party opposed him and tweet:

"Special children are not an "azaab" but are special human beings to be care and love and allowed to develop their own potential. In fact, no child can ever be an azaab and for anyone to make such a cruel, inhumane statement is absolutely unforgivable and condemnable."

People on Twitter showed their anger and tweet:

Bilal Kayani:

"Fayyaz Chohan sinking to a new depth. during the press about the coronavirus, he described having children with disabilities as a punishment from God. What a vile disgusting thing to say. Worth remembering that this man, who consistently spews venom, was reappointed as info MINISter by Imran Khan."

Haroon:

"I'm so disappointed that Fayyaz Chohan is part of the PTI government. His shameful comments show his personality."

ArmughanAli:

"Having a disabled child is not a punishment. They are the creation of Allah. This is a place of shame for those who consider them a burden or a punishment. The government must take the action of Fayyaz-Ul-Hassan Chohan. He broke the heart of special people"

Ali Mustafa:

Slogans used for protest:

After all the pressure from everyone, Minister apologized for his hurtful statement and said, "I got very emotional while talking about all the Coronavirus situation and therefore got tongue-slip and I do apologize for my says."

That is a true fact that disability is a different ability. Being a Muslim we know, what Allah teaches us about disability. In Islam, the stories of two companions of Prophet Peace Be Upon Him, Abd-Allah Ibn Umm Maktum(RA) and Julybib (RA) clarify the importance of disability.

Abd-Allah Ibn Umm Maktum(RA), was blind by birth but despite this Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) gave him the responsibility of reading azaan in Madina. He was so keen to memorize the Quran and blindness did not become a hindrance in any way. Similarly, Julybib (RA), who was not best looking shape Sahabi but for Him Muhammad(peace be upon him) said, " Julybib of me and I of Him, Julybib is of me..", He repeated this three times. This is because Julybib(RA) participated in the battle and after the battle, He was found killed on the ground and there were seven enemies of Islam found kill around Him. He killed seven enemies of Islam that is why Prophet (peace be upon him) said that He is my family.

This is a small reminder from Allah for us and for people who still get disability as a punishment.
